Leran Ten Qirat
The term "qirat" describes the numerous techniques for reciting the Quran, each having its own distinct pronunciation, style, and regulations. The Arabic root word "Qara'a," which meaning "to read" or "to recite," is where the word "qirat" originates. The goal of a Qirat Course is to teach students the correct methods for reciting the Quran, so that they can do so beautifully and accurately while following Tajweed's criteria for pronunciation and phonetics.
Islamic tradition places great emphasis on the study of Qirat, which is regarded as an essential component of Islamic education. Not only is accurate Quran recitation necessary for one's own spiritual practice, but it's also necessary for leading prayers and instructing others.
An overview of Qirat
Ten accredited schools of Qirat exist, each called after a notable Quranic recitationist. Sub-schools, or "Riwayat," which are variations within the main schools, are further divided into these schools. The ten Qirat consist of:
- Nafi' al-Madani's Qirat
- Ibn Kathir al-Qirat Kitab
- Abu 'Amr al-Basri's Qirat
- Ibn 'Amir ad-Dimashqi's Qirat
- Khalaf al-Bazzar's Qirat
- Asim ibn Abi al-Najud's Qirat
- Hamzah az-Zaiyyat's Qirat
- Al-Kisai's Qirat
- Qirat of Ya'qub al-Hadrami
- Qirat of Abu Ja'far
The significance of Qirat
Learning to recite the Quran in a melodic voice is not the only aspect in becoming a proficient Qirat. Its purpose is to safeguard the veracity of the Quranic text as revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and transmitted through the ages. The Quran is a divine revelation that is meant to be recited, heard, and pondered upon; thus, reciting it correctly enriches the spiritual experience.
Recitation Accuracy: makes certain that the reciter follows the precise rhythm and pronunciation guidelines given by the particular Qirat being studied.
Spiritual Bonding: allows the reciter to interact more deeply and meaningfully with the Quran, which heightens the spiritual experience.
Community Leadership: trains people to lead prayer in groups, when accurate recitation is essential.
Instruction and Dissemination: Enables individuals to teach others, ensuring the accurate transmission of Quranic recitation across generations.
